Competition Rules
Effective date: 4 September 2026
These official Competition Rules govern the Women Who Build Cover Competition described on the Cover Competition page.
By submitting an entry you also agree to the Women Who Build Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.
1. About the competition
The Cover Competition invites original cover designs that represent the women shaping the built environment. The winning design is intended to be featured as the official Women Who Build calendar cover, subject to final production requirements and any applicable licence or release documentation.
2. Eligibility
The competition is open to designers, students and creatives as described on the Cover Competition page.
Entrants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete the Women Who Build Guardian Consent process and must provide a valid Guardian Consent Reference Number with their entry.
Entrants aged 18 or over are not required to provide a Guardian Consent Reference Number.
3. How to enter
Entries must be submitted through the official Cover Competition form on the Women Who Build website.
Each entry must include the required contact information, the cover design file, and the required acknowledgements.
The closing date for entries is to be confirmed. Do not assume an unpublished deadline.
4. Maximum entries
A participant may submit no more than two (2) separate designs.
Each entry must independently meet these Competition Rules. Submitting more than two entries does not increase eligibility. Additional entries beyond the permitted maximum may be rejected.
5. Original work and artificial intelligence
AI-generated or AI-assisted artwork is not permitted.
Competition entries must be the entrant’s own original human-created work. Women Who Build will not accept artwork that has been generated, substantially created, or materially altered using generative AI tools.
Every entrant must confirm, as part of their submission:
“I confirm that this submission is my own original work and was not generated or created using generative artificial intelligence.”
Women Who Build may request reasonable supporting information where originality is questioned.
6. Artwork specifications
Cover artwork should be prepared at 11 × 14 inches (portrait) or 14 × 11 inches (landscape).
No visible crop or cut border is required.
Accepted file types are JPG, PNG, WebP or SVG. The maximum file size is 10MB unless a later specification says otherwise.
Other production specifications, including colour profile, bleed and final print-ready delivery requirements for a selected finalist or winner, are to be confirmed.
7. Guardian Consent
Where an entrant is under 18, Guardian Consent must be completed before the competition entry is submitted.
The same Guardian Consent Reference Number shown after that consent is submitted must be entered on the competition form. Women Who Build may reject an under-18 entry if the reference is missing, invalid, or does not correspond to a stored Guardian Consent submission.
8. Required acknowledgements
Every entry must confirm that the entrant has read and agrees to:
- these official Competition Rules
- Terms & Conditions
- Privacy Policy
- the originality / no-AI declaration
A separate Media Release may be requested if a person becomes a finalist or winner, or takes part in related publicity.
9. Timeline
Selected finalist(s) will be contacted on or before November 26, 2026.
The final winning Women Who Build calendar cover will be officially revealed in Toronto during the first week of December 2026 at the Women Who Build Calendar Reveal / Release event.
The exact event date and Toronto venue are to be confirmed. Event arrangements are subject to confirmation.
Women Who Build will allow enough time after finalist notification to verify eligibility, verify Guardian Consent where required, obtain final high-resolution artwork, and prepare the calendar and the December reveal event.
10. Prize and recognition
The winner will receive:
- their winning design featured as the Women Who Build calendar cover, subject to final production requirements
- a cash prize — amount to be announced / to be confirmed
- recognition at the official Women Who Build Calendar Reveal / Release event in Toronto
Travel, accommodation and expenses are not promised unless Women Who Build separately approves them in writing.
For a winner under 18, appropriate parent or legal guardian involvement will be required for publicity or participation in the reveal event.
11. Selection
Entries are reviewed against these Competition Rules and the brief described on the Cover Competition page. Submitting an entry does not guarantee selection as a finalist, winner, or publication.
Women Who Build’s decision on eligibility and selection is final, subject to any right that cannot be excluded by these Rules.
12. Intellectual property
Entrants keep any copyright they own in their original work, except to the extent a separate written licence, publication agreement or Media Release grants Women Who Build specific rights needed to use a selected design.
Completing a Media Release does not by itself transfer ownership of an entrant’s original artwork.
13. Removal or disqualification
Women Who Build may refuse or remove an entry where required consent cannot be verified, information is false or misleading, these Rules are breached, originality cannot be supported, or the submission creates a safety, privacy, legal or safeguarding concern.
14. Personal information
Personal information submitted with an entry is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
15. Accessibility
If you need these Rules or the entry process in another accessible format, please contact us. Accessibility information is available at: Accessibility
