Accessibility
Effective date: 4 September 2026
This Accessibility Statement explains how Women Who Build approaches access to this website and how you can contact us if you encounter a barrier.
1. Our commitment
Women Who Build is committed to making its website and digital content accessible and usable for as many people as possible, including people with disabilities.
Access matters to this platform. The people we recognize work across job sites, studios, classrooms and offices, and visitors should be able to use this website with a range of devices, browsers and assistive technologies.
2. Accessibility standard
We aim to design and maintain our website in accordance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA and applicable accessibility requirements.
This statement does not claim that the entire website is fully WCAG 2.2 AA compliant, certified, or 100% accessible. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and independent certification has not been completed for this site.
3. Accessibility measures
The current theme is built with the following measures in mind:
- semantic page structure, including header, navigation, main content and footer
- one page heading (H1) on each template, with supporting H2 and H3 headings in order
- keyboard access to navigation, buttons and links
- a visible keyboard focus style
- a skip-to-content link
- descriptive link text in navigation, footer and legal pages
- meaningful alternative text on brand and editorial photographs; decorative icons marked as hidden from assistive technology
- high-contrast body text on cream, white or black backgrounds
- responsive layouts intended for mobile, tablet and desktop viewports
- readable text using relative sizing that can enlarge with browser zoom
- form controls associated with labels, with required fields identified
- validation and error-summary messaging on website forms
- accessible names on buttons, including menu, close and form actions
- reduced-motion support where the visitor’s system requests it
These measures describe how the theme is built. They are not a substitute for a full independent accessibility audit.
4. Forms
Website forms are intended to be usable with keyboard navigation and assistive technology.
Fields have visible labels connected to their inputs. Required fields are marked. Checkboxes used for privacy, competition rules and guardian consent include associated labels. Some forms save a draft in the browser on this device until you submit.
If a form is difficult to complete, contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to take your information another way.
5. Images and media
Photographs used to identify people or editorial content include alternative text describing the image.
Decorative icons, such as arrows or social icons that sit next to visible text, are hidden from assistive technology so they are not announced as extra content.
The site does not currently embed video with a player that we control. If video or other time-based media is added later, we will work to provide appropriate alternatives.
6. Keyboard navigation
The website is intended to be navigable without a mouse.
You should be able to move through links, buttons and form fields with the Tab key, activate controls with Enter or Space, and close the mobile menu or a dialog with Escape. Dialogs are coded as modal windows with accessible names.
7. Colour and contrast
Primary reading text is set in near-black on white or cream, or white on black, with the intention of supporting readable contrast.
The Women Who Build orange is used for emphasis, rules, buttons and some labels. A full contrast audit of every colour combination has not been independently completed. If colour or contrast makes content hard to use, please tell us.
8. Responsive access
Pages are designed to adapt across desktop, tablet and mobile viewports, including common widths from small phones through large displays.
Layouts use flexible type and spacing so content can reflow when the browser or system text size is increased. If a page becomes difficult at a particular size, please contact us with the page and device you were using.
9. Third-party content
Some parts of the experience are delivered by third parties, including web fonts from Google Fonts and, if enabled in future, analytics, embedded social content, video or payment services.
Those services are outside Women Who Build’s direct control. That does not mean accessibility issues in our own pages will be ignored. We remain responsible for the theme, content and forms we publish, and we will take reasonable steps to address barriers you report, including where a third-party tool is involved.
10. Known limitations
Accessibility is an ongoing process. During this pass, the following limitations were identified:
- The orange brand colour used for some small labels and links may not meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast for small text in every combination. Body text uses near-black or white and is intended to remain readable.
- Some interior pages currently reuse the same bundled photograph. Replacing those images is a separate content task and is not part of this accessibility statement.
- Shop, shipping and preorder policy pages are referenced where relevant but are not fully built as ecommerce experiences yet, because payment is not currently active.
Users are encouraged to report any problem they encounter, including issues not listed here.
11. Feedback and assistance
If you experience an accessibility barrier, or need information in another accessible format, please contact:
Please include the page you were using and, if you can, a short description of the barrier. That helps us investigate.
12. Alternative formats
Women Who Build will make reasonable efforts to provide website information in an accessible or alternative format upon request, where practicable.
We cannot promise a specific format or turnaround time in this statement because those arrangements have not been established as a published service standard.
13. Ongoing improvements
We will review accessibility as the website, forms, images and programmes change.
Feedback from visitors is an important part of that process. When we make a material update to this statement, we will change the effective date at the top of this page.
